Oceanic House was constructed to the designs of Henry Tanner Junior between 1903-06. The freehold is held by the Crown Estate. Oceanic House is described by Pevsner as “an Edwardian Baroque adventure, with much use of applied open pediments”. The main front faces west towards Pall Mall and a bronze equestrian statue of George III was executed by Matthew Coats Wyatt and erected in 1836. An earlier building on this site housed the Pall Mall restaurant, at which the Rugby Football Union was founded in 1874. The building was home to the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company better known as the White Star Line.
By the time this Independent Texmex bar and restaurant opened, now with keg beers (2010), the original interior which had survived upto the 80s had been destroyed.
