This friendly pub has won numerous CAMRA awards including Rural Pub of the Year seven times, Rural Cider Pub of the Year runner-up in 2017 and Yorkshire Regional Pub of the Year Runner-up in 2015. Situated close to the busy town centre and NYMR steam railway it offers one regular beer plus five guests (often sourced from Yorkshire micros). Well-behaved children, walkers and dogs (on leads) are welcome.
The Sun Inn has two rooms; a main bar, cosy in winter with real fires, and where pub games and newspapers are available. A short corridor leads to the "Garden Room" which is ideal for families, special events and private functions and has a display of local artists work. The large enclosed beer garden at the rear is popular in summer and plays host to the beer festival held in September. The barbecue can be hired for use in the summer.
Many regular events include a fortnightly acoustic music session, weekly charity quizzes, monthly jam sessions and monthly vinyl nights. Customers are welcome to bring their own food from local takeaways. A covered smoking area is also located at the rear.
Open from noon on Easter Monday and during Summer and Christmas school holidays.
