Historic Interest
Wallasey Vale Brewery was established in 1835 by Richard Spragg who continued running the brewery until 1874. Emma Spragg is named as proprietor and brewer from 1875. The company E Spragg & Co Limited was registered in May 1896. The location of the brewery is shown on the 1874-82 OS map. It supplied ale to five local pubs - Cheshire Cheese (Wallasey), Pool Inn (Wallasey), Jolly Sailor (Poulton), Plough Inn (New Brighton) and Farmers Arms (Wallasey). The brewery also supplied ale to private functions in six and nine gallon casks. Acquired by Higsons Brewery in June 1919 with the five tied houses. Compulsory Purchase in 1921 for road widening and the site is now occupied by shops.
