This Pub is Permanently Closed
Southern Hampshire CAMRA held its first meeting in 1974 at the Bay Tree, which after a brief spell as The Graduate and then The Sorcerer, was sadly converted to flats in around 2003. The former Gales pub, constructed in 1955 on the site of an older pub, boasted two bars on the ground floor and a function room upstairs, which hosted popular 'Blue Indigo Club nights' in the 1960s, where artists such as Rod Stewart played to packed crowds. While its location was probably popular with students at the adjacent Solent University, the pub closed in 2001 but its sign can still be seen on the side and rear elevations, slowly fading away.
