Some 200-years old, this traditional low-beamed local is in a residential area just off Harrogate Road (A658) and near the Industrial Museum. It was originally called the Gardeners but eventually adopted its nickname. It comprises two main rooms either side of a centrally located bar with a conservatory to the rear. When visited in January 2025, three hand-pulls were present on the bar but there was a single regular real ale available. It was indicated that a refurbishment of the pub was scheduled for March 2025 after which it was hoped more real ales will be available. The comfortably furnished lounge, known as the "Best Room", includes discrete seating areas. The tap room is simply furnished and contains a TV screen for showing sports and a screened darts area which includes provision to play miniature darts. A pool table is housed in the conservatory and this is free to play on Thursday evenings. A large beer garden and children's play area is located to the rear. Pool & darts games leagues are hosted on Monday nights. On Friday evenings, there is a quiz followed by playing card competitions. A 'Killer Pool' event is held on Sundays and there is also a bingo from 3.30pm followed by an' Open the Box' competition.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 1 regular beer.
