This Pub is Closed Long Term
This building was constructed in 1896 as the Railway Hotel, which served the high level railway of 1890, the latter now long gone. To the locals the place was always known as the 'Shant', a name possibly derived from the shanty town built by the navvies during construction of the railway, the site of which is now occupied by a trading estate. The pub, which officially adopted its popular name in 1982. In May 2013 it was bought by the Partners Pub Company, who performed an extensive refurbishment. This included a facelift to the exterior of the building and a new interior layout. Three large TVs have been installed for sporting events and traditional pub games are also available. The pub hosts quiz nights, bingo and live bands
Since the cessation of Partners Brewery the availability and choice of real ale is sporadic.
