Robin Hood, Great Clacton

Looking at old maps it looks like the building was originally three cottages, perhaps associated with the then adjacent Brooker's Farm. Vintage Inn's website mentions "The site on which the inn stands was the Brooker farmhouse, which was originally known as a building called 'Feveralds' or 'Brewers' which had belonged to the Reynolds family 300 years ago. The date the building was constructed;1823, can be seen engraved into the stone above one of our fireplaces today", although its listed building status entry suggests parts are older: 'C17 or earlier with later additions and alterations'. The planning history for the property records its conversion from a Guest House to a Licensed Hotel granted in 1959. The Clacton & District Local History society posted "When Charrington's opened the 'Robin Hood' in London Road,Gt Clacton, Mr.Norton Whipps from the 'Half Moon' at Grays was the first landlord. He was the youngest of 14 children! The first pint at the Robin Hood when it opened in 1960 was pulled by Councillor Timmens. The pub was described by Charringtons as 'a mass of old beams and wrought iron lamps.The Saloon has thick fitted carpets and besides being the Ist house for Charringtons in NE Essex,the style is not often seen in the district.'" in their Facebook group on 13/07/2018 accompanied by a picture of an old advert.
