This is the fourth pub on this site. The oroginal was built in the 1800s but was burnt down. The replacement was itself demolished in 1960 and a prefabricated building was erected to replace it. This incarnation of the pub earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'pub that was built in a day' and was itself demolihsed in 2004. The current building is considerably more substantial, built in the traditional brick & flint style.
