A three storey Italianate style building the Queens Hotel, which has no history of serving real ale, was built in 1854 on the Promenade to follow the sweep of the bay, whilst the town itself was built on a grid system. In 1884 a new wing was added on Clonmel Street which now houses the Embassy ballroom and Windsor restaurant.
