This Pub is Permanently Closed
This pub suffered serious fire damage in March 2013 and since it closed in April 2012 its future appears to be uncertain with it being earmarked for conversion to a Tesco Express. The premises was doubled in size with a large extension added but Tesco never occupied it after a downturn in their fortunes. It has remained empty ever since. [Update: A One Stop due to open June 2024].
Historical snapshot: As the Pontnewydd Inn this was once a cosy pub with a traditional layout of public bar and snug. Back in the 60's and before it would have been the nearest pub for railway passengers as it stood above the former Upper Pontnewydd station which won awards for its floral displays. The railway track bed is now under Cwmbran Drive. In later years the pub was opened out and became Fairces 2.
