Historic Interest

The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter and both light and dark Milds (E), TV, Juke Box, darts, dominoes and phoney handpumps! In April 1977 it was listed by Geoff Breakwell as a good Greenall Whitley pub to visit in an article on Bolton Pubs. On July 19th 1979 a Branch Meeting was held here. In 1980 it was listed in the selective Greater Manchester Good Beer Guide. On March 8th 1981 it was included on a Sunday Lunchtime pub crawl. In May 1981 it was a Greenall Whitley pub selling Mild and Bitter (E) Another Branch Meeting was held here on August 4th 1982 with another on June 8th 1983 and again on August 8th 1984. Later before it closed in mid 1985 it also sold Original (H). It was listed in the Good Beer Guide from 1981 to 1983. It was also included in the 1985 selective Greater Manchester Guide but the pub had closed by the time the guide became available! It was reported as being up for sale in June 1985 and by September 1985 it had been bought by the council so that it could be demolished to make way for the extension to Topp Way. In Summer 1987 it was reported that it had been demolished. It was included on the lost Locals list in Spring 1994. On 28/02/82 the Mild was 48p and the Bitter 50p.
