This is a restaurant, where drinking alcohol, including draught and bottled beer, is only allowed when food is being consumed.
*** Unfortunately no longer selling any Real Ale and does not really want to have non-dining drinkers. A pity, since under Kevin Edwards previous ownership, the pub had won several CAMRA awards for the excellence of its ale and featured in 10 editions of the Good Beer Guide from 2011 to 2020. ***
This gem is a spacious, family-friendly pub-restaurant with cosy fireside area, smart restaurant, function room and a charming conservatory with views of old water-mill and garden. The pub changed ownership in autumn 2018 and is now run by David McLean and his wife Sophie. The pub underwent a minor re-furbishment in January 2019.
Unfortunately, the handpumps have been removed with the publican now desiring to run a restaurant and not a pub. Two keg beers are supplied by Spey Valley Brewery and a Cairngorm beer in key-keg is also available. It is not yet known if the latter can be classed as 'real' or not until another visit is made.
An excellent range of foods is served with specials changing daily. Expect a new menu to appear with much use of local produce. Website is currently under re-construction and will probably eventually contain menu details.
Live Scottish/Irish instrumental music plays on Sunday evening. Brodie Castle is nearby and the popular Brodie Country Fare is opposite. It is doubtful if the annual beer festival will be held in the summer as there was not one in 2019.
Was local CAMRA Country Pub of the Year in 2012.
