This Pub is Closed Long Term
The original "Old Malt Shovel Inn" was on Hagg's Lane, Ossett dating back to the early 1800s and slaked the thirsts of the miners who worked at nearby Roundwood Colliery. Originally, it was just a house with gardens of over an acre plus stable and other outbuildings. The new Malt Shovel originates from 1937 after Broadway was built and, at that time, was just inside the Ossett Boundary. Circa 1970 the name was changed to the “Sports”, and then again to the “Frog & Firkin” ca. 1985. The pub reverted to its original name around the end of 1997.
