Down a drive off the main road, this beautiful old building dates from the mid 1850s, and was for many years the home for Joshua Fielden, MP for Todmorden. who had interests in social reform. In the 1930s it became a hotel, but during the second world war it was used as a base for Canadian soldiers. Later the building became a school for the deaf, before opening again as a hotel in 1988. Very much an upmarket country hotel, with large wood panelled rooms and high ceilings, it is well known for its Cloisters Restaurant, which serves excellent food. The bar is next to this, and has wonderful views over the Surrey countryside. Only keg lager and bottled beer is sold. The building is licensed for weddings, and these are very popular. The food times given are for the bar; additionally the restaurant is open every evening from 6pm-9.30pm. There is also a Spa and Health Club on site. A separate bar is to be found in the Leisure centre, and this has sports TV.
