This Pub is Permanently Closed

Property was built in 1914 as a cinema. It was converted to a church in 1955 by the Christadelphian organisation. Sold to the JD Wetherspoon pub chain in 1994 and given listed building status. Opened by JDW as The Magic Box. Closed as a pub Dec 2006 and reopened as The Metropolis in 2008, a comedy and live music venue. Also called Jesters Comedy Club before it closed again in Jan 2012

Currently (2014) vacant and boarded up.

Building work was ongoing in 2019.
