This Pub is Closed Long Term
Wetherspoons decided to sell the pub, and the last day of trading under JDW management was 8 September 2019. It has been closed since then. In autumn 2021, building works are in progress to convert the building to student accommodation. It is possible that the ground floor will reopen as some sort of bar.
Wetherspoons converted this large former furniture store to a pub in 1995. A large lounge interior in typical style with no recorded music, but quiet TVs for news and sport. Toilets on the first floor. Several upper floors are unused; Wetherspoon had proposed conversion to a hotel, but this scheme never progressed.
Historic Interest
Fomerly Maple's furniture store. The pub's name refers to Richard III, the last Plantagenet king of England, who stayed in Leicester in 1485 on the eve of his defeat at nearby Bosworth Field.
