Named after Herbert Kilpin (1870-1916), the Nottingham-born lace worker and was one of the football pioneers who founded Italian club AC Milan in 1898. Born and brought up at what is now 195 Mansfield Road, Kilpin played for local sides Nottingham Olympic and St. Andrews. Kilpin was player-manager. AC Milan was originally called the "Milan Foot Ball and Cricket Club". The Herbert Kilpin is in Nottingham City Council's Lace Market Conservation Area.
