This Pub is Permanently Closed

A substantial 3 storey building, which stood out above the 2 storey terraces surrounding it. The Keystone is another in a long list of former Matthew Brown pubs that have closed in Preston. It stood at the corner of Brook Street and Villiers Street, but was closed in March 1981 and subsequently demolished as part of the Plungington area renewal.

Our main image shows the pub probably in the 1970s. In the centre of the upper floor was an arched recess which had the words Key Stone in raised lettering.

Our second photo shows the pub closed and boarded awaiting demolition and was probably taken some time in 1981.
