Traditional granite stone pub, close to the Iona Ferry and the departure point for boat trips to Staffa. It was originally a private house, then a tea room, then craft shop, before becoming a pub in 1993. After expansions and changes of ownership the pub is now in the hands of local investors hoping to continue to serve the local community and the tourist trade. Food is locally sourced where possible. Pies are served in the bar when the restaurant is closed.
Community Owned
Freehold Owner: Private limited Company (1). Year Purchased 2022.
The Keel Row had been up for sale for some time prior to the pandemic (the owners wanted to retire). The pandemic & closures of hospitality meant the pub could not operate, effectively closing it during the pandemic. The local community - wanting to save the pub, formed a group (Keel Row Consortium Ltd, a Private limited Company with 26 shareholders from the local community) and invited locals to invest in a fund to purchase the pub. The asking price was raised, and in April 2022 the pub re-opened under community ownership and operated by a manager.
