This Pub is Permanently Closed
In August 2021 Waverley Borough Council approved a planning application to convert the Jolly Sailor into housing, bringing to the end a sad and slow demise of the CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year only a few years earlier.
It had been a cosy pub with a nautical themed interior and a mix of comfortable seating.
Simple wooden flooring and an occasional log fire added to this homely interior.
Benefiting from a Greene King Local Heroes tenancy, offering a wide range of beers from local microbreweries, the range reduced when Greene King refused to renew the deal and the inevitable decline soon set in.
Historic Interest
The pub used to be a row of cottages which was converted around 250 years ago. It was a stopping point for sailors between Portsmouth and London.
