A warm welcome is always guaranteed at the town's most successful micro pub.

However, please note that unless there is an unexpected Boro game, and unlikely now they have been knocked out of the Cup, the pub will be closed on Sundays during January and February 2026.

After celebrating successfully running the pub for 10 years, Neil and Liz are now taking a well earned retirement. Lisa and Paul Sargeant are now holding the reins, with a view to keeping things very much the same.

First opened in March 2015, the Infant is one of several micro-pubs within what was the town's 'solicitors' quarter', all within a stone's throw of each other, and located in parallel streets of substantial Victorian terraced houses just south of the main shopping precinct and north of the University campus.

The Infant is handy for the Law Courts, while Middlesbrough football ground is a fifteen minute walk away. Its close location to the Riverside Stadium has resulted in developing a national reputation amongst discerning away football supporters, with matchday Saturdays resulting in a tremendous atmosphere.

Named after Gladstone's description of the town in 1862, after he had witnessed the expansion of the local steel making and ship building industries, all now sadly departed.

Four beers of different styles are served. Three third pint tasting trays are available.

Opens early on matchday Saturdays. Now also open 2pm til 8pm on Sundays, and from 11am to 11pm on Sundays when Boro are at home. Closed on Sunday during Jan and Feb, reopening on Sun in March
