Massive and impressive mid-Victorian hotel. The 'Number Ten' bar, which is open to the public, has relatively modern fittings with mirrors dedicated to prime ministers, and photos and newspaper displays on political events. This is a conversion of the former snooker room, and there are two spectacular painted and leaded rooflights, particularly the large rectangular one over the servery area. The George Formby Convention is held here quarterly.
