17th Century manor house converted to a striking 4 star hotel in the 1980's after standing empty for several years and in danger of falling down. the restoration retained several original features, including the striking Jacobean facade, built from stone from nearby Roche Abbey. A substantial modern extension was later added to the rear. Close to junction 2 of the M1, it boasts 89 bedrooms, restaurant, bar and lounge overlooking landscaped gardens. There is also a health club and spa for guests and extensive parking. Close to Hellaby Business Park and junction 2 of the M18. The hotel has a marriage licence and can conduct marriage services. Ownership changed from Prima Hotels to a small local hotel group in January 2016.
Historic Interest
17th century grade II listed mansion, designed by and built for Ralph Fretwell, a sugar tycoon who made his fortune in Barbados. It was completed in 1692. The Jacobean facade was built with ashtar limestone from nearby Roche Abbey. Following several decades of dereliction, and threat of demolition, it was refurbished and reopened as a hotel in the 1980's.
