A traditional boisterous town local. Admiral Taverns refurbished the pub over November 2025 to February 2026. A clean modern interior and a spacious rear yard.

Historic Interest

Dating from the early 19th century or earlier, it was originally the 'Champion', thought to be named after the racehorse which won the Derby and St Leger in 1800. Until 1927 it was owned by Thomas Salt & Company of Burton-upon-Trent, but that brewery was then taken over by Bass. It reopened in December 1970 after refurbishment, having been renamed 'Hansom Cab'. Joseph Hansom invented the 'Patent Safety Cab', and the first Hansom Cab travelled down Hinckley's Coventry Road in 1835.
