Originally a Shipstone's pub, the building dates back to 1868. Re-opened Spring 2014, after a long period of closure. Extensively refurbished to make it light and open; one side of the central bar has tables and chairs for diners and drinkers, with the other side housing the pool table. At the back is a small raised area complete with comfortable seating. Challenge 25 operates, and no tracksuits or hoodies allowed.
Historic Interest
The Half Moon was a fully licensed establishment under Robert Widdowson in 1832 (White). In 1855 the publican was C. Bissell and in 1876 the landlady was a Mrs Sarah Ashby (Post Office Directories).
"The Half Moon, judging from its situation, its thatched roof, and general appointments, was an old inn. The Widdowsons lived there early in the 19th century." (J.H.Beardsmore 1909 / www.nottshistory.org.uk).
The Half Moon has an entry on Ashfield District Council's Local Heritage List (September 2016) as being "Locally Listed".
