This Pub is Permanently Closed
Small traditional local near the Lock Lane Sports Centre on the Northern outskirts of the town, the pub is popular with the locals and visitors from the nearby canal. Ownership passed from Enterprise to private ownership with refurbishment completed January 2017.
Historic Interest
Richard Watson, born Kippax, was Licensee in 1822 of the Old Griffin Inn, Castleford New Bridge. He died Nov.1839; wife Dina Sandford of Boston,Linconshire died Oct. 1845; both interred Castleford Churchyard. Richard was reputed to be the publican/owner of both the 'Griffin' and the 'Keel' Inns at Castleford. He also ran Keels a type of vessel used in transport on the canal between Goole and Leeds.
