This Pub is Closed Long Term
Well run town centre pub near the market offering a pleasant environment in which to relax and enjoy a drink or a lunchtime meal. Lunches are popular and it is advisable to book for Sunday lunch in the upstairs restaurant which is signposted on a large mirror above an old fireplace. It has an Edwardian style open plan interior broadly divided into two sections. There are two attractive tall tables fitted around ornate lamp posts topped with large coloured lights. A large TV is suspended from the ceiling showng programmes in sub-titles so as not to clash with the background music. One seating area has black & white prints and pictures of historic characters and scenes, and show biz stars. A former Courage pub, 2010 saw the demise of the long established house ale Courage Best in favour of a monthly guest ale from Wye Valley Brewery. A good pub that held its own while others in town have sadly failed. Sadly it gave up on selling real ale finding it difficult to shift and is now boarded and for sale.
