This Pub is Closed Long Term
The George Inn is a charming 15th century Inn located in the picturesque village of Chardstock, close to the Devon, Dorset and Somerset borders, on a back road off the main A358 road to Chard. It has an unusual feature where you go downstairs to the bar when entering from the car park. It was originally a Church or Parish House, and evidence of the building's age can be seen in the Snug area of the bar, where there is dated Graffiti from 1649 and earlier. Many original features remain, such as a fireplace, old oak beams and a beautiful piece of linen fold panelling in the Lounge Bar Area. Accommodation will also be available in the future after a refurbishment. There is a skittle alley that can double as a function room, and darts and pool are played. There is outside seating, and the pub is dog friendly.
In Dec 2024 the pub was put on the market by owners Wellington
Active Campaign
The pub closed early in 2022. A community group, the George Inn Continuity Group, is exploring how to save the pub.
