A sympathetic and extensive renovation carried out in 2014 created a modern look with a hint of the history of the building being allowed to show through with much dark wood and bare brick. Dramatic use is made of the former coaching archway, it is now incorporated to be part of the pub by being glazed front and rear. The bar occupies the middle of the pub, with the right side being more of a vertical drinking area. The outside drinking area at the rear is well executed, whilst the historic hanging sign had a repaint and once again looks magnificent. The provision of TV screens is very generous, generally showing different sports programmes. Cask ales were dropped from sale in late 2024.
Historic Interest
Originally this was a large Greenall's coaching inn of some character. Reopened Sept 2014 following a five-year period of closure. Owners, Amber Pub Co of Preston re-located the Hogarth's brewery from Bolton to here in November 2018. Located in an outbuilding at the rear of the property, beers ranged from in-house brews such as Cheadle Brewhouse US Triple Hop, and Cheadle Brewhouse Aussie Pale Ale. Sadly in September 2020 the brewery was closed down and dismantled, due to apparent unprofitability and other factors
