1930s red brick two roomed pub. Local branch Pub of the Season Winter 1993. Was called the Fountain, then in 2006 it became a music and arts community centre called the Glass Onion, which closed in 2009. Reopened as The Rose in May 2010. Small, light and airy, with wooden floorboards, wood panelled bar and art on the walls. Piano and fireplace. Embe Restaurant upstairs serves African and Caribbean food from Tuesday to Sunday. Two handpumps serve real ales often from microbreweries, e.g. Digfield and Tydd Steam. Update December 2012: now operating as a restaurant only, called Embe (after the Swahili for mango).
