A visitor in early Feb 2024 found 4 hand pumps but none in use - any further news welcome. 13/04/24 - Told by barman that they no longer sold real ale. All four handpumps still present but not in use.
Opened in 1998 as one of Whitbread's Hogshead chain, it occupies a corner site that was formerly a commercial building. Hogsheads specialised in a large range of real ales and numbers then fell. In Nov 2018 it re-opened after a refurbishment with 6 handpumps and now 4. They hold something called "Real Ale Monday’s" but we are not sure what this entails?
Now more of a cafe-bar, aimed at the younger set, with adequate seating for eating; a busy mix of high tables, stools and sofas in a large, one-room setting. See their website for food menu. Named after the landowner who first permitted the area to be developed in the 1790s.
