A visitor in early Feb 2024 found 4 hand pumps but none in use. Told by barman that they no longer sold real ale. Confirmed in Feb 2026 that the pumps have been removed so no cask beer even though their website says they have "real ale" and Real Ale Mondays. Gipsy Hill Hepcat and other mainstream on keg.
Opened in 1998 as one of Whitbread's Hogshead chain, it occupies a corner site that was formerly a commercial building. Hogsheads specialised in a large range of real ales and numbers then fell. In Nov 2018 it re-opened after a refurbishment with 6 handpumps and now 4. They hold something called "Real Ale Monday’s" but we are not sure what this entails?
Now more of a cafe-bar, aimed at the younger set, with adequate seating for eating; a busy mix of high tables, stools and sofas in a large, one-room setting. See their website for food menu. Named after the landowner who first permitted the area to be developed in the 1790s.
