Dating from 1701, the Duke's Head was on the southbound carriageway of the A24. A small tiled entrance hall at the front lead to bars to the left and right. The right hand one, which also has access to the car park, had parquet flooring and a wood burning stove and was used as an overflow restaurant area as well being available for drinkers. The left hand bar was the main one, and had tile flooring and a large inglenook in which there was a large wood burning stove. Off this was the main restaurant area.
