This Pub is Closed Long Term

Picture-postcard village pub, parts of which date from the 16th century. The oldest part, thought to date from the 1560's and forming the main bar and includes many exposed beams, is the thatched upper area of this split-level pub. The lower part, a lounge and dining area, is thought to date from the 1830's and features a large open fireplace. The building has been used as a pub since 1870. The name was changed from the Crown to the more unusual Crown and Cushion in 1910, possibly to coincide with the coronation of George V.

Future uncertain. Current owners living in the premises. Possible village buyout being disused (2022)

Active Campaign

The pub closed in March 2020. The owner of the pub is currently living in the pub (August 2023). A community group (Great Gransden Community Benefit Society Limited) is working with the Parish Council. The pub was registered as an Asset of Community Value in July 2018, and renewed in 2023. The pub was put on the market for sale in May 2023, and a six month moratorium period, to allow a community bid to be placed, was initiated. In 2026 an enforcement order was served on the pub's owner to cease using the pub as a residential dwelling.
