Early 19th-century market place pub with two rooms divided by a central bar and with outside seating areas to the side and rear. This former Batemans pub, now operated by Pub People Company and refurbished March 2024, has regained its status as a proper ale pub after past disappointments, with up to six cask ales (see Real Ale Finder) and a Lilleys cider available. Regular entertainment includes TV sport and Tuesday Quiz with all cask ales £3 a pint on Mondays.
Historic Interest
Formerly used as accommodation for visiting theatre troupes and as a meeting place for Druids and Oddfellows; it has also witnessed at least one murder in its time.
