The original pub was buily circa 1835 and was situated beside the old dram road. It stood close to the former entrance of the Arael Griffin Colliery from which it drew many thirsty customers after the afternoon shift. To make room fro the widening of the railway, it was demolished and relocated to its present site in 1874. After serving is community for over 170+ years it eventually closed. It now serves its community as the Ty Ebbw Vach Communities First building and cafe.

Historic Interest

Built in 1874, it was once owned by Phillips Brewery of Newport, before they were taken over by Simmonds of Reading (1949) which was bought by Courage in 1960.
