The Fieldhouse replaced an earlier pub and was built with a large function/ball room. In the 1970s, the name was changed to the Claregate and over time the rooms were amalgamated into two large but distinctive areas with seating arranged in bays. The dance floor remained underneath the carpet.
In 2015, the pub was threatened with demolition and conversion to a nursing home, but an active campaign by the locals managed to secure an ACV (renewed in 2023) and the closure was cancelled.
In Spring 2017, a major refurbishment was carried out to change the Claregate to a Marston's Generous George brand. Although the emphasis is on dining, it offers up to 4 Marston’s beers. A Tesco local store is located on the large car park.
There is an enclosed beer garden at the front of the pub that looks onto Claregate park across the road. The garden occasionally hosts outside events in the summer.
The bus stop is right outside the pub.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 2 regular beers.
Claregate, Wolverhampton
