This Pub is Closed Long Term

This historic pub is now owned by Newport Cathedral who are deliberating into what community use the building can be put, therefore its days as a pub are almost certainly numbered.

It was renamed in late 2011 having been the Six Bells since about 1840, although it did have a short spell as the controversially named Physog & Firkin in the 1990s. It stands opposite St Woolos Cathedral where casualties from the Chartist march of 1839 are buried. A large open plan interior with wooden floorboards is centred around some retaining pillars. There is also a carpeted section with comfortable seating facing a fireplace above which hangs a large Allsopp's Ales mirror. Disco and karaoke on Friday evenings. A large function room is upstairs. Entertainment comes in the form of poker on Monday evening (7.30pm), Car parking can be found around the Cathedral. Sadly the bank of handpumps are redundant but hopefully at least one may one day sport a pump clip, the licensees are finding it hard to shift real ale at the moment.
