This pub is under community ownership and has undergone an extensive period of refurbishment. National runner-up in the CAMRA Pub Saving Award 2024.

It reopened with new tenants on 28th June 2025. New opening times now confirmed and they will start to offer food in July.

An olde worlde 200 year old village pub with many low beams and brassware in a Grade II listed building dating from the early 17th Century. A single bar with some very comfortable seating and a real fire. Lovely garden. Occasional live music. In current CME Recommended Pub Guide.

Freehold Owner: Community Benefit Society. Year Purchased 2024.

The pub closed in Jan 2022. A community group (Roxwell Chequers Community Benefit Society Ltd) got the pub registered as an Asset of Community Value, conducted a community consultation and prepared a business case for a plan to bid for a community purchase. In Dec 2023 they were awarded £276,233 from the Community Ownership Fund. In 2024 they completed the purchase of the pub. The society are now refurbishing the pub and finding a tenant.
