Historic Interest
A report in the Ipswich Journal** on Oct-15 in 1898 when William H Rogers was the landlord states that : "John Levitt was charged with being drunk & refusing to quit the Chequers. William Rogers, the landlord, suspected that Levitt could not pay for the beer he had ordered & refused to serve him, whereupon he became abusive. Levitt was fined 2s 6d with 7s 6d costs." In Jan 1981 edition of Last Orders*** it was reported that landlords of this then Tolly Cobbold house, Irma & Mike Mortlock, had just moved to Gislingham Six Bells. In March 1981 edition it was reported that they were leaving. Photographs of this pub and more historical information about it can be found at suffolk.camra.org.uk/pub/337
