This is a 3,600sq ft, two-storey 1840-build pub site, from June 2025 in a new incarnation as The Chalk freehouse. It's run by chef Tom De Keyser who worked with Tom Kerridge for many years. Top-quality gastropub food is available at lunch (including a set-lunch menu) and dinner.
Three ale handpumps generally include a house bitter on cask, plus two others.
The dining area is downstairs but the ground floor is often also taken up by diner-drinkers.
NB if entering or leaving the pub, be careful of the cars and taxis that can swing round this corner quickly.
Historic Interest
The place-name Chelsea derives from the Anglo-Saxon Caelichyth, meaning “chalk wharf”; and the pub name pays homage to the area’s maritime heritage where chalk was once unloaded.
