Formerly known as Fitzgeralds, the pub reopened after a brief closure for a makeover, in spring 2025. The outside has been repainted and the "Fitzies" sign removed. Now known as The Canny Lad, it is labeled as an "Irish Bar" although it still retains real ale. Six handpulls are available ; this may increase if the demand is there. The large bar area on entry is divided into discrete seating areas. The former Chart Room down some steps is a now a games room with a pool table and fart boards.h a pool tabs There are several TV's in both rooms. In 2022 the pub celebrated 30 years inclusion in the Good Beer Guide.
There is a small beer garden at the back.
