Extraordinary estate pub with abandoned public bar in the far corner of SW19 near the common

Brian Ekins writes in 2021: the Burghley Hall Public House that stood in Princes Way, SW19, was one of the great pubs when I played football for its team in the 1960s and it was run at that time by Len Jones. My best friends today are still those I met in and around the Burghley Hall.

Peter Darby writes in 2023: I and my wife Linda trained to be publicans at the Burghley Hall in the late 1960s when Len Jones was the Landlord. His tipple used to be Beaujolais and Slimline Tonic. And every Sunday he used to cook a mean leg of Lamb for our lunch.

Robert Friend writes in 2023: I remember the Burghley Hall too from when I was 5. It had wide bar, a grand old building with a big garden at the rear. My mother and father would argue there, neither could handle the drink, I was the only one in family who could. You might remember them.

I remember a woman on Smithwood Close trying to fight my Mum because her husband talked to her in that pub, crazy times. My Mum told me to pour marbles out the letterbox because she wanted to get in our flat, it was funny. When I saw her son the next day I said what was that all about. She was really possessive, but funny what happens in pubs.

They built a Co-op shop on the other pub my parents went to at 90 Inner Park Road, the Jenny Lind. It's annoying when our old memories cannot be seen in real life one last time and relive the old memories. I was between age 1 and 4, I have such a great memory, they are precious to me.
