This Pub is Closed Long Term

In Aug 2023 there was a planning application ref L/TH/23/1080, to permanently close the historic Britannia Hotel/Public House to turn it to residential use, thankfully this application was refused in April 2024. That said, in Sept 2024 another application has been made to convert the pub to self-contained flats. The Thanet District Council planning reference is F/TH/24/0981. This application has yet to be decided.

It is a large seafront pub and following the lockdown of Oct 2020 to Jan 2021 the pub did not re-open. Late in 2021 new management took over and the pub re-opened however this did not last and the pub closed once again in early 2022.

Historic Interest

Reputedly the former taproom for Cobb's Brewery. Cobb’s was situated on a large site directly behind the pub. Following the demolition of Cobb's in the 1970s the site saw some new buildings put up which included the current police station next door.
