This Club is Permanently Closed

This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.

This club has closed, purchased by Glovers Properties Ltd and will reopen as a privately owned entertainment and functions venue on the 2nd May 2026.

Adjacent to the river Anker and licensed for 24 hours, the club comprises a bar area along with two function rooms and boasts the biggest beer garden in Tamworth. There is a sizeable car park for guests as the club hosts wedding receptions and wakes. Full size snooker tables, quiz nights, and music events all cater for a whole genre of tastes and complement this picturesque setting. Timothy Taylor’s Landlord is the regular beer, but anyone hiring a function room may arrange for a cask of their choice to be put on the spare hand pump. Angling is available on the river.

The club was originally the home of Rev. William MacGregor who helped to found the Tamworth Co-op and campaigned for public health improvements in the town. He was also a noted Egyptologist with the Manor housing a large collection of Egyptian mummies, two of which are reputed to have been buried in the grounds after they began to decompose. The only remnant of his collection left in the club is located to the right as you enter. Embeded in the wall is an ancient funeral headstone to an Egyptian woman called Tasheriese. Appropriately amongst the offerings made at her funeral was beer. A translation and notes are to be found in the notice cabinet to the left of the stone.
