Stone-built 17th century pub that was once also the village blacksmiths. The poet John Clare worked in the pub as a pot boy over 200 years ago. He lived next door and the cottage is now a dedicated museum. A dining area complements the pub's existing two bars and snug area. Four handpumps, with two changing guest ales, with usually one Locale served. This cheerful, vibrant pub is very welcoming and the locals are always happy to chat. A refurbishment in 2014 saw the bar area being opened up, a roof being put over the former glass conservatory restaurant and the pub being redecorated. Children welcome until 7pm.
