Friendly and spacious pub, with a huge U-shaped bar at its centre, welcoming all ages and varieties of customer. Three handpumps on the bar but the beer is usually fetched from the cellar and gravity fed. The pub is named after a locally-wrecked ship, which foundered in Oct 1862 on its way from Liverpool to Bombay - some of the ship's timbers were used in the pub's construction, and it is the home of local singing group, the 'Bencoolen Wreckers'. Take time to read the account of the wreck, which occupies one of the walls. As well as bar food there is an attached restaurant serving a la carte international cuisine with a Spanish flair.
