The unusual pub name is derived from Lord William Howard of nearby Naworth Castle who was nicknamed 'Belted Will' by Sir Walter Scott on account of the broad belt he wore. Situated at the northern tip of the Pennines the pub is ideally placed for all types of outdoor activities including cycling, bird watching (largest inland RSPB reserve) pony trekking, golf and fishing. An enthusiastic local couple warmly welcome drinkers and diners whether local or tourists.
