Two roomed, cosy village pub -- one containing the bar and a welcoming fire, the other more of dining area (alothough food yet to be introduced after village buyout, see below). In the meantime, food trucks, such as a horsebox serving pizza, make occasional visits. Set in a pleasant garden and in an area with extensive views of the Chilterns and Aylesbury Vale.
Pub reopened in December 2024 having been bought by the Ashendon Community Pub Society Limited (a Community Benefit Society) in September 2024. Currently being run by local people, they are looking for a tenant to run the pub on a permanent basis. It is a vital local asset for local villages such as Winchendon, Westcott and Dorton, which have all lost pubs in recent years. There are plans for the food offering and the B&B rooms.
Community Owned
Freehold Owner: Community Benefit Society. Ashendon Community Pub Society Limited. Year Purchased 2024.
The pub closed in November 2021. The Ashendon Community Pub Society Limited (a Community Benefit Society) has campaigned to save the pub. In March 2024 they were awarded a grant of £300K from the Community Ownership Fund. They launched a community share scheme in May/June 2024 and raised .£500K. In September 2024 the purchase of the freehold was completed. They are now looking for a tenant to run the pub.
