Reopened in December 2017 after being closed since April due to an electrical fault. The Alexandra occupies an imposing late Victorian building, which was next door to the old Alexandra Theatre. The pub has a good sized open plan bar, which is bright and airy in a rough horseshoe shape. Sports TV is popular here with a number of screens around the pub.
Historic Interest
The Alexandra occupies an imposing late Victorian building conveniently situated on the corner of Barrack Road and Alexandra Road. The pub sits beside the site of the now demolished Alexandra theatre, allegedly where Charlie Chaplin performed his début. The theatre was later converted into a cinema and continued screening shows until its final closure in the early 1970s. The building was unfortunately demolished in the mid 1980s yet rumour still has it that a projectionist employed in the cinema many years ago sadly took his own life. His spirit is believed to roam the area, including the Alex even now! (Source: Pub Website)
