This Pub is Closed Long Term
Built in 1880 as St Paul's Wesleyan Chapel for the then enormous sum of £6000, converted to Academi pub in 1999 - the adjoining former Sunday school serves as games room. Handpumped beer is served, but this is frequently from Felinfoel and is believed not to be stored/dispensed using Camra-approved methods. The pub is owned by Manx brewers Okells, but sadly, apart from a very brief flirtation during its earliest days, they have shown no interest in supplying their excellent cask beers here as they do to their other off-island pubs. Accordingly the Academi can only be described as a major under-used resource on the town's beer scene. If you wish to read the Ten commandments in Welsh with a drink in hand, however, this is undoubtedly the place for you.
